You’re sure to discover the ideal location for you and your companion, whether it’s wine country, a large metropolis with picturesque vistas, or a bustling center of entertainment.

The top 8 romantic US cities to go to with your significant other

  1. Charleston, South Carolina, to start

Charleston is often named one of the most charming towns in the United States. It is well-known for its colorful Georgian architecture and tree-lined cobblestone walkways. This tiny port city offers plenty of green areas for exploration along with museums, art galleries, and cozy eateries offering regional cuisine.

I’ve made two trips to this city. the first time around Christmas with my spouse. Our stay at the downtown Francis Marion Hotel on the square was wonderful. I loved the Holiday Parade and all of the Christmas décor.

In 2022, I went to the Charleston Wine + Food Festival on my second visit. Every year in March, it takes place. It’s a terrific event for couples, but it requires some previous preparation, and I had a lovely time. View my festival review HERE. See also my day-trip to Charleston after the event. You have to try Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit!

  1. Louisiana’s New Orleans

One of my favorite gastronomic places is New Orleans, which is also one of the most romantic cities in the United States. If your sweetie like live music, this city is also highly recommended. The city, which is upriver from the Gulf of Mexico, is known for its warm weather and inviting jazz clubs. I had a great time at the jazz festival here on New Year’s Eve with my hubby! For live music and dancing, Frenchmen Street is my preference over Bourbon Street. Savor Cajun and Creole cuisine throughout the day and night. For foodies, the city is a fantastic destination overall!

  1. California’s San Francisco

Are you trying to find romantic US cities to visit? San Francisco is the ideal destination if you’re on the West Coast. With a view of the Pacific, this artistic city in northern California is well-known for its steep streets, cable cars, and iconic Golden Gate Bridge. In 2023, my spouse and I will return there. It’s among the most scenic cities in the United States. It’s very beautiful when the fog passes over the Golden Gate Bridge!

There are many of stores and eateries on Pier 39, and you may even be able to see the California sea lions who live there on the docks. Savor a bowl of the famous clam chowder of the city at a relaxed café or go for a walk in Oracle Park, which is close by.

I like to look around the downtown food artisan marketplace, the Ferry Building. Samples are often available, and there is a farmers’ market on the weekends. Visit 900 North Point in Historic Ghirardelli Square for a delectable hot fudge dessert after a healthful meal. And of course, San Francisco has a massive Chinatown. For more intriguing artwork, visit the Botanical Gardens and the Museum of Modern Art.

  1. New York, New York City

A comprehensive list of all the romantic things to do in New York City would need a separate blog article. Naturally, I have some prejudice since I’m from the Northern NJ/NYC region. Couples can find plenty of entertainment options within this place day and night.

NYC is undoubtedly one of the most romantic cities in the US, with its brilliant lights of Times Square and Central Park picnics. Hudson Yards is my new favorite neighborhood. In addition to being a fun activity, The Edge offers shopping therapy. Eat supper at Estiatorio Milos, a Greek restaurant. It offers great espresso martinis, lets you choose your own fresh fish to grill, and boasts stunning views of the Hudson River. One Broadway production, or two or three, is required. Select a play and a musical! See my suggestions for obtaining inexpensive Broadway performance tickets.

  1. California’s Sonoma
If you’re not like urban jungles, how about a visit to the stunning wine region of California? Sonoma County is huge, surrounded by redwoods, mountains, vineyards, and the coast; nevertheless, if you stay in downtown Sonoma, you’ll find a smaller, more historic city with less visitors than Napa. The primary attractions in the area are its boutique hotels and tranquil spas, as well as wine tastings at Sonoma County vineyards.

The city itself has a plaza from the 19th century that has been beautifully renovated and has a number of upscale eating options. If you’re looking for a more active getaway, there are many of cycling and walking paths close by, and romantic hot air balloon trips above the valley are also very popular. It was amazing when my spouse and I had a hot air balloon flight above Napa Valley. Strongly recommended!

6. Key West, Florida

With its pristine white sand beaches, opulent resort hotels, and consistently pleasant weather, Key West is consistently ranked as one of America’s most romantic towns. This island retreat, the most southerly US city, is a great place for couples to get away from the winter blues in February since it averages 75°F. And I was informed I was seeing Cuba via binoculars!

Key West is home to several parks and museums, including the Butterfly & Nature Conservatory and Ernest Hemingway’s residence. It is reached via a long, gorgeous overwater drive. Your itinerary should include a lot of water sports, such as swimming with dolphins and snorkeling on shipwrecks. I should caution you that Key West does not have a lot of beach space. I think it is better designed for water sports. Still, the sunsets are breathtaking.

7. California’s Carmel-by-the-Sea

The charming coastal community of Carmel-by-the-Sea is tucked away on the Monterey Peninsula. Its craggy coastline and woodland paths provide it the ideal setting for strolls on Valentine’s Day. One of the most charming towns in the US, its rural center is reminiscent of a hamlet from a fairy tale. Some of you may remember that I traveled alone to California in 2011 for my “Eat, Pray, Love” solo journey, and this city was the “Love” destination.

Take a self-guided walking tour of Carmel, hike the breathtaking coastline cliffs, visit the city’s nine wine tasting establishments, or all three during your visit. Take a car trip to Pebble Beach or Big Sur.

A 20-minute drive away lies the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, home to many sharks, penguins, and sea otters. While I did not enter the aquarium, I did go whale watching; be cautious if you do this since I became seasick after catching a sight of a whale. Make reservations for supper at Casanova on 5th Avenue, which used to be Van Gogh’s favorite spot.

  1. Arizona’s Sedona
In search of something a little different? Sedona is renowned for its unparalleled stargazing and captivating sunsets, and it is surrounded by breathtaking red rock formations and canyons. In addition, it has powerful spiritual ties; four vortexes in the vicinity are said to release transforming energy. Because to Sedona, Arizona has emerged as my second favorite US state, after California. To believe it, you have to see it!

There is something for everyone, including the exhilarating pink jeep trip and picturesque hiking routes that wind through deep gorges. Downtown has a variety of eating options, including bistros, music bars, and fine dining. Sedona is one of the most romantic places in the US to go on Valentine’s Day, regardless of your hobbies. See my blog article for suggestions on restaurants and tips on how to spend an amazing weekend in Sedona.

I hope my list of the best romantic US cities to visit on Valentine’s Day and beyond has been enjoyable! Take a journey with the person you love. Make it unique and let them know. The suggestions were offered by The Sophisticated Life.
